Colnago C40 Gold — Model History

  • The Colnago C40 was introduced by Colnago in the mid-1990s, and its name reflects “C” for Carbon and “40” to celebrate Colnago’s 40th anniversary.

  • This frame uses a bonded carbon construction, where carbon tubes are bonded into carbon lugs — giving a stiff yet comfortable ride.

  • Around the year 2000, Colnago released a limited “Gold Millennium” edition of the C40. Only 400 units were made worldwide.

  • The Gold edition typically came equipped with Campagnolo Record 10-speed components, a Colnago Star (or Flash/Carbon) fork, and special gold accents — such as a gold Colnago logo on the head tube, gold ITM cockpit parts, and gold details on the saddle.

  • According to some sources, these bikes sometimes included a Colnago gold watch as a special gift with the purchase.

  • The Gold edition uses the second-version C40 frame, which can be identified by features like the “ace of clubs” symbol on the head tube lug.
